ASA DataFest is a nationwide data analysis competition sponsored by the American Statistical Association. It’s a 48-hour data hackathon where teams of undergraduate students work together to tackle a large, complex, and surprise dataset. The event fosters creativity, collaboration, and statistical thinking—all in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
The University of Arizona participates annually, with the competition hosted both locally on campus and virtually for online students. Teams of 4–5 students analyze real-world data and present their insights to a panel of judges. It’s a unique opportunity for students to build hands-on experience and develop skills that are highly valued by employers.
Graduate students are encouraged to serve as mentors during the event. Mentors provide guidance, answer technical questions, and support student teams throughout the weekend.
